In Wisconsin on Wednesday, the state Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit filed by supporters of President Donald Trump seeking to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. The lawsuit was aimed at throwing out more than 220,000 absentee ballots in Dane and Milwaukee counties.
The court ruled 4-3 against the lawsuit, with conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joining three liberal justices in the majority. The court said the lawsuit was filed too late and was without merit.
The lawsuit was the latest in a series of legal challenges filed by Trump and his supporters in key battleground states to try to reverse Biden’s victory. Most of the lawsuits have been dismissed by judges.
Biden won Wisconsin by about 20,600 votes, a margin that was confirmed following a recount in Dane and Milwaukee counties.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling marked the latest setback for Trump in his efforts to challenge the election results. Biden is set to be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on January 20th.
