Prominent Trump ally Rudy Giuliani disbarred in DC

Rudy Giuliani, the attorney who became the face of former President Donald Trump’s legal efforts to contest the 2020 election, has been barred from practicing law in Washington, DC.
A District of Columbia appeals court panel issued the order Tuesday, citing Giuliani’s false statements about the 2020 election as a reason for his disbarment. The court stated that Giuliani made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” while representing the Trump campaign in its failed legal battles to overturn the election results.
Giuliani’s disbarment in DC follows a similar decision in New York, where his law license was suspended in June. Both states cited Giuliani’s conduct following the 2020 election as the basis for their disciplinary actions.
Giuliani’s legal troubles stem from his role in promoting unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, despite courts and election officials finding no evidence to support these allegations. His actions have raised concerns about the spread of misinformation and the erosion of trust in the electoral process.
Giuliani, once known as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, has faced a dramatic fall from grace in recent years as he aligned himself closely with Trump and embraced conspiracy theories about the election. The former New York City mayor’s disbarment is a significant blow to his legal career and reputation.
