Puerto Rico’s Gonzalez becomes new governor, does not name Gobernadora
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Jenniffer Gonzalez became Puerto Rico’s new governor on Wednesday in a surprise move that angered some lawmakers, who questioned the legality of the move.
Gonzalez was sworn in following Pedro Pierluisi’s exit.
The former governor said Gonzalez’s oath appeared usurped and that he would challenge her legitimacy.
Gonzalez, who until now served as Puerto Rico’s non-voting member of Congress, quickly appointed her own secretary of state but did not choose a lieutenant governor.
