Jimmy McCain, son of the late Senator John McCain, endorses Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
In a surprising move, Jimmy McCain, son of the late Senator John McCain, has come out in support of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris. Jimmy McCain, who is a Republican, cited his father’s close friendship with Biden as a key reason for his endorsement.
“I’m a Republican and I’m going to stay a Republican, but I’m just saying because of what’s happened in the past four years, I just can’t trust the current administration,” Jimmy McCain said in a video released by the Democratic National Convention.
John McCain, a longtime senator and former Republican presidential nominee, had a close friendship with Joe Biden that transcended party lines. The two men worked together in the Senate for many years and shared a mutual respect for one another.
Jimmy McCain’s endorsement comes as a blow to President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, as the McCain family has been critical of Trump in the past. Trump famously mocked John McCain during his 2016 presidential campaign, saying that he preferred war heroes who weren’t captured. John McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for over five years.
While Jimmy McCain’s endorsement may not sway many Republican voters, it does bring attention to the growing number of Republicans who are dissatisfied with the current administration. His decision to cross party lines and support Biden and Harris is a symbolic gesture of unity and bipartisanship in a deeply divided political climate.
