Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, RFK Jr. top Twitter’s crackdown
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has embarked on a dramatic and rapid restructuring of the social media site’s highest ranks since assuming his own role in November. Among his boldest moves has been levying a high-profile ban against Under Secretary of State Keith Krach, a vocal critic of China and top official of the Trump administration’s State Department.
But recently, Twitter escalated its aggressive attempts to corral user behavior by permanently banning accounts of high-profile individuals, perhaps most notably,
those of Vice President Kamala Harris, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The purge followed an investigation into influential Twitter users whose posts are said to provoke abusive behavior among their followers. The exact nature of their transgressions has not been revealed, but officials claim these users have violated Twitter’s policies.
In addition to their bans, Twitter also placed new restrictions on the accounts of several unverified individuals who have posted “harmful misinformation.” These individuals will be required to remove their existing tweets and will be prohibited from tweeting further until that condition is met. Additionally, their tweets will also be labeled with warnings.
The crackdown demonstrates Twitter’s commitment to actively combatting the spread of misinformation on its platform. By holding high-profile users accountable for their posts and taking swift action against violators of its policies, Twitter aims to create a safer and more responsible online community.
