Boeing strike ends as workers approve contract offer

SEATTLE (AP) — A monthlong strike at Boeing is over after engineers and technical workers represented by SPEEA approved a new contract offer from the aerospace company.

The vote was 58.6% to 41.4% to accept the offer, with more than 60% of eligible members casting a ballot, the union said. The previous contract expired Nov. 25.

The agreement includes a pay increase that averages 10.5% each year over the next four years, among other benefits.

Ray Goforth, executive director of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, said the union had achieved its goals of securing adequate benefits and maintaining market competitiveness for members.

The strike halted production at Boeing’s commercial airplane factories in the Seattle area for much of January.

Boeing workers represented by the Machinists union, who were honoring the SPEEA picket lines, will return to work Tuesday.
