BMW recalls vehicles for 3rd time due to water pump fire risk
BMW is issuing another recall for a series of vehicles due to a risk of engine compartment fires. This is the third time the German automaker has had to recall cars for this issue.
The recall includes 1.8 million BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, X5, X3, and Z4 vehicles produced between 2006 and 2013. The affected vehicles are equipped with 6-cylinder engines.
The problem stems from a faulty electrical connection that can cause the water pump to overheat, leading to a fire. Owners will be notified about the recall and will be instructed to bring in their vehicles to have the issue fixed free of charge.
BMW is recommending that owners park their vehicles outside until the problem is addressed to reduce the risk of fire.
This recall comes after a similar issue in 2011 and a previous recall in 2017 for the same problem. Owners with questions about the recall can contact BMW customer service for more information.
