Georgia High School Football Game Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Hurt
WINDER, Ga. (AP) — A shooting at a high school football game left one teenager dead and another wounded in Georgia, forcing the evacuation of the stadium.
The shooting happened Friday night during a football game between Apalachee High School and Cedar Shoals High School in Winder, news outlets reported.
Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the shooting followed a fight in the parking lot of the school. One of the victims, a 17-year-old male student at Apalachee High School, died from his injuries. The other victim, also a 17-year-old male student at Apalachee, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound. His condition was not immediately known.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or detailed what led to the shooting. No arrests have been made.
The stadium was evacuated after the shooting, and the remaining portion of the game was canceled. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case.
Winder is about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northeast of downtown Atlanta.
