The Las Vegas Raiders have fired special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis and three other assistants following a 6-7 season that has the team on the outside of the playoff picture.
Coach Rich Bisaccia announced the moves Friday night, confirming reports earlier in the day by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and The Athletic. Also fired were safeties coach Ron Milus, senior defensive assistant Myles Simmons and special teams assistant Dwayne Stukes.
“Unfortunately there’s always change in the league,” Bisaccia said. “It’s a production-based business, and we need to win games and we need to perform at a high level. That’s the standard, that’s the expectation, and it’s up to me to get us to that point.”
The Raiders’ special teams have struggled of late, with a number of costly mistakes contributing to losses. That included a botched fake punt in a 17-15 loss at Washington last Sunday.
DeCamillis, who previously served as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator in Jacksonville and Denver, was in his first season with the Raiders. He was promoted to special teams coordinator after Brad Seely retired following last season.
Milus was in his sixth season with the Raiders and Simmons was in his second.
The Raiders have five games remaining in the regular season, starting Sunday at Kansas City. Vegas had won three straight before losing to Washington.
